Peter Jackson starts “Hobbit” casting

peterjacksonPeter Jackson has made the announcement that casting for “The Hobbit” begins this week for the next installment of “The Lord of the Rings” series. They are expecting open auditions for all of the parts except Gandalf which is obviously reserved for Ian McKellen who played the wizard in the previous trilogy.

Jackson believes in the wide casting opportunity for a chance to expand his chances of finding new up and coming actors. In regards to the casting he told The Hollywood Reporter, “What we’ve done over the years is discover a lot of interesting actors, like Orlando Bloom (in ‘Rings’), Kate Winslet (in ‘Heavenly Creatures’), Saoirse Ronan (in ‘The Lovely Bones’). So if you start looking and auditioning seriously, it’s amazing what incredible talent you’ll find out there.”
