Mariah Carey stumbles through acceptance speech at film festival

Chances are, more folks will see Mariah Carey’s inebriated acceptance speech from last night’s Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala than the number of people who will actually see her performance in the film she was being honored for.

A clearly out-of-it Carey was in the desert Tuesday night to receive the award for best breakthrough performance for her role as a tough but compassionate social worker in the drama ‘Precious: based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.’ It’s an award that would seem to be very validating after her movie career was derailed by the disastrous response to 2001’s Glitter.

But Carey was not in serious actress mode by the time she was escorted to the podium.

It became very clear from the start that she was in an altered state.

Starpulse reports Carey stated, “I have to say, this is – and please forgive me because I’m a little bit – yeah,” she said, nodding her head at an audience who seemedf to finish her sentence.

“Oooooooh, my goodness!” she said before breaking into a big laugh.
