Women making Grammy history

For the first time in Grammy history, three women will be going against each other for the top honor. Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce all have in their own rights many reasons why they should walk away with the win.

Taylor Swift has been coming off a fairytale 2009 year, sweeping up every award in sight. Tonight, she has 8 nominations, coming in second only to Beyonce who has 10 nominations. Her record sales have been off the charts and continue to rack up numbers. Swift was nominated last year for best new artist, but lost to Amy Winehouse, so this could be her year.

Five-time nominee Lady Gaga is going for record, album, and song of the year. She would have been up for best new artist, but her single was nominated last year so it disqualified her from that category.

This is not to discount rockers Kings of Leon who have jumped out of nowhere to emerge into the music scene. If Swift, Gaga, and Beyonce split the votes then Kings of Leon might have a back door chance at taking home record of the year.

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards take place at the Staples Center and will air live on tv at 5pm PST.
