Angels & Airwaves to give away new album for free
BY LINELLE SCHULTZ
The band Angels & Airwaves (AVA), from brainchild Tom DeLonge (Blink-182), will be releasing their new album “Love” in stores on February 14, 2010, but for two days before the launch, they will allow fans to download the entire album for free from Fuel.tv. DeLonge has always been known to create elaborate ideas to promote AVA from music video teasers to entire dvd’s. He has always been about the fans, the music and never about the money, so this doesn’t come as a total surprise that the band would decide to cut a deal like this.
I do have to wonder how this download, if publicized greatly, will affect the sales of the album. In the current economic state, cd’s are becoming one of the first things to get cut because there is so much easy accessibility to the same content online, but for free. I know I will be downloading the album online for free not because I don’t want the hard copy, but because of the fact that I can get it two days earlier than the store date. I will probably go buy it two days later just to get the artwork and tangible cd, but I think that this will drop their total sales.
But then again, for DeLonge, it has never been about the money or the stats, so I’m sure this is exactly what he wanted.
