‘God of War III’ getting great grades
BY SEAN O’CONNELL
Sony Computer Entertainment’s “God of War III” finally hits store shelves today, and reviews for the mythical, hack-and-slash battle franchise have been off the charts.
“War III” is the fifth and potentially final chapter in the “God” series. In this latest installment, players control Kratos, bastard son of Zeus, who wages war on an array of Greek gods. In an E3 2009 demo, Kratos was seen battling a centaur, a chimera, and a cyclops. Characters in the game reportedly include Aphrodite, Athena, Cronos, Hades, Hercules, Hermes, Poseidon and many, many more.
Video game reviewers are gobbling “God of War III” up. The French edition of Playstation 3 Magazine gave “God” a perfect 20 out of 20, calling it “one of the best games of all time.” 1Up.com and Game Informer also bestowed perfect grades on the game, with the latter saying the cinematic camera work rivals that which was seen in “Uncharted 2.”
Other outlets avoided perfect grades but still ranked the game very high. GameSpot gave it 9 out of 10. GamreTrailers gave it 9.2 out of 10. IGN gave it 9.3 out of 10.
We put the call out to Sony and asked for a review copy. We’re praying it arrives soon. Once it is in hand and we’ve played through a few levels, we’ll weigh in with our own opinions. In the meantime, suit up for “God of War III.” It’s in stores now.
