SXSW: John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill talk “Cyrus” – Hollywood In Ten
BY SEAN O’CONNELL
“Cyrus” is an uncomfortable relationship comedy from co-directors (and brothers) Jay and Mark Duplass. It stars John C. Reilly as a sad sack named John who, on the rebound from his divorce to Jamie (Catherine Keener), meets and falls head-over-heels in love with Molly (Marisa Tomei). The only thing standing between the couple and happiness, however, is Molly’s grown-up and strangely jealous son, Cyrus (Jonah Hill). Fresh off its well-received screening at the South By Southwest film festival, “Cyrus” stars Reilly and Hill met with a small group of film journalists to talk about the Duplass brothers’ unique filming methods, the use of improv on the film’s set, and their preference of film over live theater. Here’s a special edition of “Hollywood in 10,” live from Austin, Texas.
