Exclusive Video: the SXSW premiere of ‘Red White & Blue’

BY TODD GILCHRIST

Last week during the blitzkrieg of screenings and events at Austin, Texas’ South by Southwest Film Festival, writer-director Simon Rumley held the premiere of his new film Red White & Blue. Starring Amanda Fuller, Marc Senter and Noah Taylor, the film follows three people whose lives are inextricably connected by a destructive cycle of sex and violence, and it promises to be one of horror fans’ must-see movies when it’s hopefully released later this year. (So provocative was the film, in fact, that it inspired a shouting match with attendees at a screening later in the week when the filmmakers attempted to discuss its darker and more disturbing moments.)

Hollywood News attended that premiere and was lucky enough to record the (comparatively milder) question-and-answer session following that premiere screening. After Rumley offered his thoughts about the terrible deeds that his characters commit, cast and crew members mused about the merits of showing on-screen violence, and the group as a whole ultimately offered some fascinating insights into what might normally be dismissed as a document of pure brutality. Click on the video below, feel free to check out an interview for the film that ran last week on FEARnet, and be sure to check back for updates when Red White & Blue is released later in 2010.
