Gay hurling star Donal Og Cusack’s coming out considered a watershed moment in Ireland

BY GREG HERNANDEZ

One of my BFF’s is Henry Chu who is currently the London Bureau Chief for the Los Angeles Times. No matter what country Henry is reporting from, he always manages to find the most interesting stories and tell them in a compelling way.

We are in frequent contact via email but I usually find out what Henry has been working on when I pick up the paper because we are usually gabbing about tennis or our personal lives or doing I Love Lucy lines. But a few days ago, he did the rare thing of sending me a link to a story he wrote on Donal Og Cusack, an athlete who has become the most talked about gay man in Ireland.

I finally sat down and read the entire story today and it is so damned good that I wanted to share some of it with you are direct you to LATimes.com to read the rest!

Reporting from Cork, Ireland – The handshake says it all: powerful, determined, tight enough to make you wince. It’s the grip of a man who stands his ground, and who challenges you for some of yours.
