Zoe Saldana says she’ll need six or seven months to get ready for ‘Avatar 2’

BY TODD GILCHRIST

Zoe Saldana, star of the upcoming action film The Losers, said that she’ll need time to get ready for Avatar 2, but she’s eager to work with director James Cameron again. “It’s whatever the boss says,” Saldana told reporters in a news conference Sunday in Beverly Hills, Calif. “He already knows how I like to approach [the character] and I need at least six to seven months to get into Neytiri again, of training and stuff.”

Saldana enjoyed an explosive year in 2009, racking up two blockbusters, Star Trek and Avatar, in just under eight months. Nevertheless, the actress demurred when pressed for additional details when Avatar 2 might proceed, although she observed that writer-director James Cameron’s flexible timetable for making films almost always results in something special, whether the final product arrives in one year or ten.

“Whatever’s going to happen is going to happen,” Saldana said. “The good thing that we all know about Jim is that – I mean, it’s not so good sometimes because we sometimes have to wait like 10 years for it but – by the time he does come around, he gives you something that sort of changes your life or at least touches it in such a way. So I do know that Avatar 2 is going to be just as great as the first one because Jim’s the S-H-I-T.”

Saldana also said that even though she went through the process of acclimating herself  to performance capture on the first film, getting back into that performance mode wouldn’t be as easy or simple as it might seem. “It does take training,” Saldana explained. “It’s not something that I can just turn on and off. Everything is a learned skill. The same way it took me like 2 to 3 months to channel Aisha [in The Losers], you know Neytiri is going to take her time as well. I mean, there are people who kind of incarnate it. It takes a little bit of preparation.”

The Losers is being released nationwide on Friday, April 16, by Warner Brothers Pictures.

Oh shut up rob! She was the best thing in that movie. And for the millionth time, they weren’t cartoons. It was motion capture acting. She was her character.

Zoe Saldana is the soul of AVATAR. I don’t know who can take the responsibility of losing her
performace with the outcome of dropping of box office.
As for “rob”, I wonder if you’re really a movie director, you should replace such a
good actress like Zoe without doubt, just due to the hatred of Cameron, with your mean
    personality.

Get over yourself, rob. Zoe was great, Avatar is #1, Avatar2 would be #1, and you have to live through it, hehehe
