Meryl Streep named an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters

The movie academy may have passed Meryl Streep over for an Oscar this year but another academy is giving the film legend her proper due.
The star of Sophie’s Choice, Doubt, Julie & Julia, The Devil Wears Prada and a slew of other memorable films has been named an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Poet and Academy President J.D. McClatchy described Streep as being at the peak of her career and called her acting an “extraordinary example of insight, depth and virtuosity.”
