“American Idol” needs a grown-up host

By Greg Hernandez

SILLY SEACREST: Oh no he didn’t!

Ryan Seacrest may the hardest working man in showbiz but maybe he’s been too overworked to do justice to his American Idol hosting job.

Last night during an exchange with this week’s mentor Adam Lambert, Ryan remarked that “my tongue is not nearly as talented as yours.”

Ryan has been responsible for most of this season’s cringe-worthy moments and to make what clearly seemed to be a reference to oral sex was a new low point. Yes, Adam is gay and yes, he gave a risque performance on the American Music Awards but as host, Ryan is expected to set a tone and be respectful to guests.

Then Ryan went too far again when he distracted from contestant Tim Urban’s performance of Can’t Help Falling In Love by slow dancing off camera with who identifies as last year’s 10th place finisher Michael Sarver.

Ryan definitely was sipping something last night. He was acting dazed and confused. Adam gave a comical face when Ryan made the tongue comment. Way to go Adam. But dancing with the guy in the aiisle while Tim was singing and calling him “Turbin” right before his low key song, meant to be serious was really rude. It’s about time for Ryan to take a vacation, he’s been working way too hard.

agreed, he was disgusting last night, and they were worried about adam doing something racy…

He owes Tim Urban an apology. It has been widely reported (and acknowledged by Tim himself at this point) that there was audible snickering and such in the audience. That could have really messed Tim Urban up and with the format of AI, it would not have been fixable. Now, please, no rude comments about Tim Urban – I’m not a big fan either, but to think that he was potentially distracted for THIS reason is terrible. And Seacrest owes Lambert an apology as well – Lambert had promised to do his part to keep it family friendly (as if Lambert didn’t give us an entire season of family friendly, as if he’s an idiot – that whole thing is ridiculous on another level and another story) and Lambert was thoughtful enough to even twitter that he’d be on his best behavior – and Ryan goes and leads him down that innuendo path, not fair to Lambert. But who Seacrest really owes an apology to is Brian Dunkelman. That crack was just downright meanspirited. What a first class jerk!
