Kristen Stewart’s style: glam or sham?

By Kim Palacios

Is Kristen Stewart really one of the most fashionable celebrities in Hollywood, or does she simply surrender when the stylists descend? Though Teen Vogue recently named her one of March’s 10 best-dressed, when we catch her in candids, she’s hardly dressed to the nines.

I get it–every celeb glams it up for the red carpet–and if you’re as famous as Kristen Stewart, dodging fans and papparazi might require some strategic dressing down. But are black hoodies, concert tees and chucks just an invisibility cloak, or is that look Kristen’s true style?

It’s hard to tell, and tempting to hope that some part of Kstew loves the glam. In the two years since her rise to international fame, her appearances in countless high fashion photo shoots have been nothing short of stunning. She was unforgettable in the December 2008 Vanity Fair, and again in the December 2009 Harper’s Bazaar. Yet, for every breathtaking print from a photo shoot, there are two candids showing a different girl.

Recent photos taken during Kristen’s brief appearance at the Lacoste pool party at Coachella are the latest to set the ‘net ablaze. The fan reaction was strong, with many commending Kstew for “staying true to who she is” and daring to dress down. Others were less forgiving, nitpicking over everything from her tucked up hair, to her one-sleeve-up, one-sleeve-down look, to comparing her to other stars who—though they were all dressed down at the casual affair—still managed to pull it together.

But, here are some pics no one is complaining about: her spread in the current issue of Flaunt Magazine. Its high fashion aspect gives mainstream appeal while integrating elements of Kristen’s darker real life persona.

She has no style what so ever though. Even on red carpets, her stylists give her to wear what she has to and yet she manages to make it seem dirty. She looks like a boy when her stylists aren’t around.

To the poster above: Why do you have to use insults, grow up!

In regards to the article: Who wants to run around in stylish frocks on their day off? She looks great in coture and jeans, tees, and converses. She dresses like the everyday gal, yet she looks gorgeous doing it.

^^ wow that’s beyond rude. she has a great figure, just because she has shorter hair and a small bust doesn’t mean she looks like a boy. she has a chill, casual style. no frills, no fuss. she absolutely experiments on the red carpet. I loved the look she wore at the london new moon event. though i didn’t like her bafta dress because it was poorly fitted. She has never pretended to be a ‘fashion girl’ and never will. that’s what I love about her. shes so real. just because shes a famous actress doesn’t mean she should leave the house looking like a photoshoot. she dresses how she wants and what she’s comfortable in. If that’s good enough for her, then that’s all that matters.

You can tell she has a hand in what she wears on the red carpet- she tend to pick things that are more rock inspired and edgey that reflect the fact she’s into music and not a frilily sort of beauty. People just react strongly to her(waves at Jay) cause she isn’t vain enough to be photo-finished 24/7 while an average of 10 paps follow her around Los Angeles.

I think Kristen’s preferences come through in her “on the clock” wardrobe. She tends to wear a lot of black, clean simple cuts, youthful to the point of edgey, a little bit of rock and roll mixed in a bit. She is obviously not a jewelry person. She explains the process of red carpet picks-she has a stylist who shows her stuff that are more her style, and Kristen will basically say what she likes or doesn’t. The punk rock school girl outfit she wore in Spain with the see through panels for instance was a runaway look that Kristen pointed out as something she loved-on the runway the model was donning a hoodie on top of it…lol

Get a life. She dresses like a real person. I love that she does not follow those anorexic /skanky looking hollywood girls.

First post is probably a jealous cow. Kristen looks gorgeous. She is fashion. Women and girls want what she’s wearing. She’s done wonders for several fashion lines. Doo-Ri is getting orders from all the young starlets since Kristen wore one of the dresses for The Runaways. She is amazingly beautiful in person. Her skin glows and her eyes are so green. I love that she dresses like a real woman. That’s why she has so many fans. If you want fake plastic Barbies then go to Heidi Montag or someone that will be forgotten in one year. Kristen’s beauty, style, and attitude are classic. I wish I could steal all of those cute jeans that she wears. I can’t wait until Eclipse does the UK premiere so I can see here again.
