Robert Pattinson may be surpassing Kristen Stewart as the bigger star

By Kim Palacios

HollywoodNews.com: In 2009 “hot lists” naming the most successful stars in Hollywood, Kristen Stewart often bested Robert Pattinson in star appeal and pay. With new numbers coming out about the box office success of “Remember Me” and a look at upcoming film projects by each actor, it may be the case that, when it comes to star power, Rob is gaining a lead.

As the star of the Twilight films (Bella is, after all, the main character), Kristen has earned slightly more for her role than did Rob for his portrayal of Edward. She also boasts a much longer career, which found her in her earliest recorded film role at the age of 10. By the time she was cast for “Twilight”, she had already played supporting roles alongside mega-stars including Dennis Quaid, Jodie Foster, and Glenn Close. Yet, Twilight Saga films aside, her most recent and rumored projects are for films with niche followings—films that aren’t making back their budgets at the box office.

Robert Pattinson’s strategy has been different. Despite his later start as a screen actor (which dates back approximately to 2004), Pattinson has leaned toward larger roles for each film in which he plays and working with bigger-name stars (Bel Ami alone finds him in the star role, working alongside Kristen Scott Thomas, Uma Thurman, and Christina Ricci). It also doesn’t hurt that the majority of his film projects have come forth since he earned stardom through “Twilight” fame. After his explosive popularity as Edward, he has enormous leverage to choose his roles, and can command a higher salary.

It will be interesting to see how each actor manages his career—after a big hit like “Twilight”, typical Hollywood wisdom would advise both Rob and Kristen to climb aboard the gravy train, taking the biggest roles they can for as long as they remain in favor. Right now, it seems like Rob is doing just that, whereas Kristen may be choosing some indies. Where each of them will be in 5 years has yet to be seen.

In the meantime, I’ll be keeping an eye out on IMDB. For the moment, Kristen remains in the lead with a Star Ranking of 8. Rob is hot on her heels with a Star Ranking of 9.

I think everyone is so tired of hearing all of this crap. I actually think kristen is a much better actress than he is an actor. If you love her rob then just come out and say so. Everyone wants it to happen anyway. No one would even know who rob is if it wasnt for kristen.

Why do theyhave to be pitted against each other? They support each other’s careers. They love each other so much that the success of one is the success of the other, and the failure of one is the failure of the other.

Of course Rob is gaining on her….he can act, she can’t even smile….if it wasn’t for Rob she would be left behind…if they are a couple she is very lucky and better hold on to this man because once she is out of his life…she will be back to being a nobody…

I do disagree with these stupid websites that pit them against each other. Do you pit Carey Mulligan against Shia Labouf? No. Kim P. is as lame of a journalist as Ted C. Instead of actually reporting Hollywood News, which this site is named for, they make up stuff. Rob and Kristen choose different roles. Kristen is chasing the Academy Award and Rob is trying to lose the Edward Cullen stigma. Leave them both alone. They are some of the only young people in Hollywood actually focused on their career.

I think Kristen is a very good actress for her age. Rob Pattinson, however, is so naturally talented it is a little scarey. I’ve see every movie he has ever made and am becomomg more and more impressed with Rob the actor, not simply Edward the vampire. Add to that the fact that he seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders, with a little luck he should be around in films for a very long time. It really isn’t often that someone comes around with this much charisma, talent, charm, and amazing good looks. I love that he maintains his own quirky personality throughout all of the Twilight hype. I respect him as an actor but even more as a person. It is hard to say who will have the longer career or the more successful career over all. One thing is very clear, however, together they are magical.

I don’t know about RPats, but I doubt KStew cares about the box office. If she did she would have taken Tomb Raider and that Red Riding Hood movie that Catherine Hardwicke is directing. She seems like she wants to go the Kate Winslet route and get recognized by her industry. If she ever changes her mind Hollywood has endless amounts of stupid rom coms she can do. Why do you think Jennifer Anniston and Jennifer Lopez are still working

@of course Yeah right. Go back to Nonsten now. I’m sure they miss you. Kristen was working before Twilight and she’ll be working after. She already has several major deals in the works.

So unfair to bash Kristen! Rob got the Twilight role because of Kristen (and Catherine).
The thing is, women are the majority of their fans and, a romantic or sexy movie with Rob, will have more appeal among females than a female rock star biography. It is true that Rob has been cast as the lead in all of the movies he starred on: Bad Mother Handbook, LIttle Ashes, How to Be, Remember Me, Bel Ami and Twilight. HP was a different story and, although he was not the lead, he really stood out in the one he appeared. A lot to do with his looks and charisma, of course, and also his choices of roles. There is no need to compare, though. Kristen is doing just fine. And if indie movies is her thing, she is doing what she likes — the way it should be…

God, don’t even mention Kristen Stewart with rom coms. Did anyone see The Backup Plan? That was awful. Kristen is too good to do pieces of junk like that. I would lose all respect for her if she took one. For me Robert is whatever. I don’t really care about his career, but don’t bash Kristen. She is so young and works so hard on all her movies.

There is no comparison. ShariG is right on when she says Robert Pattinson is so naturally talented it is scarey.!.Not a twilight fan. After seeing him in Remember Me I was blown away by his talent. He has the same thing all great actors have. I have no doubt he will be the one winning a academy award someday. Don’t care about the couple thing or rumors. Just loved Remember Me. The whole cast was great. iam so glad the box office is rising daily. i hope more movies are made like this.

Im so sick hearing Kristen fans saying “Oh Robert got the role because of Kristen blah blah”…. F*** off!!! He is the best among the actors who auditioned that’s why Kristen chose him. He deserves the role… and at that time who is Kristen Stewart to insist who she wants to work with? she’s not that big either at that time… her opinion was asked and the rest agreed including CH because Rob is the BEST choice… i don’t hate Kristen but don’t put her in a pedestal like what you’ve always telling to some crazy Rob fans….

Kristen is bad actress, in all her films she plays with the same face, same emotions by the same way, she’s boring, she has no charisma and no talent, even considering the fact, that she plays since 9 years old!! Look at Saoirse Ronan, or Elen Page….they are much more talented
Robert is not bad actor, he has charisma and some talent, but he should learn and get experience….All his future projects are very interesting, he plays leading role with “Oscar” actors, so he has a chance to get a good lesson of acting…So i think he has more chances to become a good actor than Kristen

Theres nothing wrong with kristen doing indies. Theres no need to compare. KStew is a really good actress and RPattz is learning. Why do people try to pit them against each other? Ive never seen these articles written about Scarjo vs ryan reynolds, or even brad vs angelina , shia vs carey … Leave these two alone! They are each doing their own thing. Although if you wanna talk big awards then kristen is much closer. She obviously doesnt care about box office. I dont think kate winslets movies are known for making money do they? When Charlize Theoron makes an indie they dont make much either…Money has nothing to do with good acting

I like Kristen’s choice in Indies. But some are questionable. Like the Runaways, I mean cmon! that should have been a made for tv movie. No one knows who they are, they are unimportant in the scheme of music of things. Anyways like I said she should mix it up, indies with rather big films. Kind of what Dicaprio and Keira Nightley do. Also do some period pieces and other things so she isn’t typecast in one role, you know as that of a angsty tough teen etc. . Mix it up.

This is undebatable. It is Kristen Stewart the actress , multitalented and gorgeous woman who make the films., not Rob. Sorry, but Rob needs an acting coach- he might do better in acting as the years go by..but the real deal here is Ms. Stewart!!

You people CRACK me up. !! First, I don’t think the author is trying to pit them against each other – she’s just giving us the news about their current popularity status and how their careers are affecting it, as well as how it’s affecting their careers. Second, many of you need to learn how to spell – your arguments lose a lot of their clout when simple words are spelled wrong. Third, Kstew cannot act her way out of a bag and although she seems like a very interesting, honest person, it’s obvious that she’s not making her career on her acting talent. And fourthly, let’s all agree that Robert is a fantastic actor in each of the movies he’s done – especially Remember Me, which was phenomenal. And last, but not least, I don’t think describing their current popularity has any bearing on their relationship. In fact, I hope they’re both getting some, even if it’s with each other. I mean, Jesus, it would be such a waste to think that beautiful man is not getting any. In fact, if that happens to be the case, I very selflessly offer myself up to take one for the team, so to speak. Team Edward, that is. :)

Um, duh. Pattinson can handle personalities, Stewart is just….sorry, folks, a pretty face. She mumbles, she speaks with no emotion, she can’t translate a character’s personality from the page to the stage, but she looks damn good while failing at all these things. Pattinson is a momentary pretty boy, but he looks to actually have some acting chops to carry him beyond his teen-idol years.

Check back in ten years and we’ll see who carries this discussion.
