Buzz Lightyear front and center for international “Toy Story 3″ poster

Maybe space toys do get preferential treatment?

The first thing that struck me about the new “Toy Story 3″ poster, which sells the “Great Escape” plot line that reportedly powers the sequel, is the emphasis placed on Buzz Lightyear to the detriment of Woody. The astronaut’s twice the size of Andy’s beloved cowboy, who’s practically the same size of equally lovable (but undoubtedly second-string) characters like Hamm and Rex.

I’m reading into it too much. Pixar knows the “Toy Story” features thrive on the chemistry shared between Buzz and Woody, as well as the wry vocal play engaged between Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, and to downplay one over the other would be insanity. Plus, Woody is all over the early trailers, which follow the toys from Andy’s room the Sunnyside Daycare, where they meet a stable of new and colorful characters.

But really, Buzz is huge in the new poster. Maybe he has a better agent than Woody?

Enjoy the new international poster (via wickieblog) below. “Toy Story 3″ will be in theaters on June 18.
