Ricky Gervais to host the Golden Globes again

British actor Ricky Gervais will return to host the Golden Globes for the second time. The star and creator of the British “The Office” hosted the 2010 awards, to mixed reviews, so it comes as a surprise that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association would choose to bring Gervais back as host.

Before Gervais, the award show had gone more than a decade without a host.

Tha HFPA and NBC made the announcement Wednesday, although the awards will not air until January 16, 2011. Gervais is known for his starring roles in “Invention of Lying,” “Ghost Town” and the HBO comedy series “Extras.”

Gervais currently holds the title of the most downloaded internet show of all time with “The Ricky Gervais Show.” Last year, HBO made the podcast into a 13-part animated series.
