Will Ferrell’s “Anchorman” sequel could be dead

By Sean O’Connell

This would be sad news, indeed. Shortly after news broke that an “Anchorman” sequel could start filming in 2011, director Adam McKay posts a tweet that stops the train on its tracks.

“So bummed,” McKay wrote on his Twitter account, @GhostPanther, one hour ago. “Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.”

McKay has said in interviews that stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd slashed their fees in order to return to the ensemble. This seems like a strange move because “Anchorman” has a built-in, bankable audience who would turn out to see the further exploits of Ron Burgundy, as played by Will Ferrell.

We have calls in to the studio for comment and confirmation. We’ll post anything we hear, so stay tuned.

This is terrible news. Anchorman ****** is my all-time favorite comedy of All Time! I never get tired of it & even love the straight-to-DVD “sequel.” If you don’t believe me, check out my kickass Avatar at any of my Awesome Webzine sites.

The world demands a sequel to the funniest, most absurd, quotable, & creative film of all time! Get it together Hollywood! I hope Adam McKay ***** & his crew go to other studios then. I’ve been waiting for this movie for years. In the meantime, check out all the Awesome Movies, TV, Music, Videos, Podcasts & more I review & feature at Rated Awesome To Awful, & more!

Paramount your a bunch of dopes if you think you would lose money on Anchorman only if you know something about youth culture and how much that movie is cited on a daily basis. Haha wow poor business.

How is this sad news? Anchorman was the worst film in the history of cinema. Will Ferrell is the unfunniest “comedian” in the modern era. Why in the world is anyone “sad” about Abomination2 being canceled?

Paramount are a bunch of turds! ”What should we make?’ I know let’s make a mission impossible 4 and lets make anothe crappy shrek movie…oh how about a remake of footloose that would certainly make sense in today’s world…what else can we put together…a sequal to the overated cloverfield now that would be a good idea…oh and talk about overated lets do paranormal activity 2… Anchorman 2 now that would just be a dumb idea! YOU ARE TURDS

Not everyone loves the same flick – I loved Anchorman. One of my fav comedies. I also grew up watching the news with dinner in front of me. Loved this take on the era. No sequel sucks for those of us who love Ron.

You have to understand though, Hollywood is a business run by businessmen, not filmmakers/artists.

It`s no great loss, just another sequel to a bad movie.
