Shooting “Breaking Dawn”: as the rumor mill churns…
By Kim Palacios
“Can anyone put my troubled heart to rest???”, wrote a fan on a private Twilight fan message board yesterday evening. “I heard a rumor that RPattz was NOT going to do BD. Can anyone confirm or deny this?”
While I happen to think that Rpattz’ disappearance is unlikely, the author of the posting highlights an important point: in the absence of official information, what is a fan to believe?
Summit Entertainment has been notoriously tight-lipped, particularly with respect to “Breaking Dawn”—and the information vacuum has made room for unprecedented levels of speculation. Conjecture runs the gamut—from things that sound highly uncommon, such as Robert Pattinson breaking away from the fourth and final film in the blockbuster series that made his career, to things like a former Twilighted getting the nod to direct. But, the truth is, even plausible rumors remain unconfirmed.
Take the rumor that “Breaking Dawn” will be filmed as two features—to the best of my knowledge, this remains a rumor. The only difference between this one and others is that it is widely accepted as truth. One rumor that turned out to be true—the “Eclipse” reshoots in Vancouver—saw speculation ranging from contention between the studio and David Slade that was so severe that the director had been asked not to film them, to the idea that these were “emergency” shoots that had not previously been planned.
According to Gossip Cop (a web site dedicated to the balanced, sensible, and informed portrayal of rumors), both tidbits were speculation run amok. “Reports much like the one earlier today are ploys to drive traffic without any merit and without any support from the studio on what is actually going on or true,” Gossip Cop says, quoting an authorized studio rep.
If this is the case, I can’t help but wish the studio was more cooperative with respect to informing fans. Inquiring minds want to know!
