Christina Aguilera is not herself in new video?

After the premiere of singer Christina Aguilera’s new single, “Not Myself Tonight” yesterday, the blogosphere is running wild with comparisons to two other blond bombshells, Madonna and Lady Gaga.

In the music video, Aguilera sports latex outfits, messes around with S&M toys and lights a wardrobe on fire. These moments are easily comparable to Madonna’s Express Yourself video, or Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance video.

Aguilera commented on the comparison to Gaga’s sound earlier this month, telling an Atlanta radio station, “I’ve been around for over a decade and I think my work speaks for myself.”

The fashion choices do seem similar with both Madonna and Gaga, but is Aguilera really copying her competitors or just indulging in the popular fashions of the time? Aguilera should have no need to copy others, being one of the most successful recording artists of all time with more than 43 millions records sold worldwide. Her fourth studio album, Bionic, will be released June 8.
