Oprah Show fans react to early screening of “Eclipse”

By Kim Palacios

A handful of lucky Twi-hards got a double-whammy this morning at the taping of the 5/13 episode of The Oprah Show. Not only did they get to sit in the same room as their favorite film stars, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner as Oprah interviewed the trio—Oprah arranged for the audience to see an advanced screening of “Eclipse”.

Word has already spread like wildfire about the reaction to the rough cut, which has been overwhelmingly positive from fans of all camps. The lion’s share of comments have surrounded the most dearly-anticipated scenes: those involving chemistry between Bella and Jacob and the angst-ridden tent scene that throws said chemistry in Edward’s face. Whether Team Edward or Team Jacob, fans seemed to agree that the connection between Bella and Jacob was “hot”; the observation was inclusive of Bella’s two kisses with the werewolf, as well as the utilitarian spooning they engage in, in the tent to keep her warm.

Echoed by fans was a sentiment expressed over and over by Team Summit, particularly director, David Slade, who has repeatedly alluded to the role of action in the film. Though fight scenes have featured in every Twilight film thus far, it seems that the ratcheted-up pace of “Eclipse” cannot be overstated.

Beyond that, comments on Twitter abounded about “Eclipse” being the best Twilight film yet—hands down. From the fight scenes, to the love scenes, to the still-unspecified soundtrack, fans were unanimous in their glowing reviews.

I am busting at the seams! I am so obessed over this series and these actors lately!!

I don’t know what pages you’re looking at, but your (obvious) Team Jacob bias is coming through loud and clear. All the web is abuzz about the romance of Edward and Bella that is showcased in this film. Also, those aren’t kisses they share, one is an outright assault that she rightly decks him for and the other is a manipulative ploy of his to guilt her into something she doesn’t want to do. Kisses are something both people want and participate in.

    Mya,

I loved your comment! Though, I am 100% Team Edward. I reported based on buzz I heard from this morning’s screening since I wasn’t there. Based on what I read on Twitter and early blog postings, attendees universally acknowledged that Bella/Jacob moments were pretty credible.

Still, we all know who Bella ends up with–vive la diference!

The viewing was last night and all the comments I have seen have been about the B/E chemistry and the hot leg hitch scene. What blogs are you looking at?

  • May 5, 2010 | Permalink |

Are you kidding with me? Every frickin tweeter who tweetet last night was talking about how much Edward and Bella there is, how much they liked the leg hitch scene and the EB kisses NO mention of the mouth assualt except for the how hard she punched him! Absoloutly no one talked about Jacob! Please post those so-called tweets about JB and we will show you how every tweet we have seen is EB tweets by EB fans!

  • May 5, 2010 | Permalink |

Here are the tweets from yesterday:
    http://community.livejournal.com/lion_lamb/7143950.html
No EB person cares for Jacob..!!! We just want more Edward and less Jacob as possible! When people were tweeting about those hot kisses, they were talking about the Edward and Bella make out scenes on the bed and in the meadow! NOT the JB’s mouth rape and that other manipluative kiss!

We EB fans are still in the majority but Summit only seems to care about the minority! They forget we were the first fans, we supported these movies from the beginning and instead of being faithful to us they try to reach for a new audience. Guys will never ever ever ever like these movies because they despise the source material! Stop giving us EB fans the short end of the stick… If Eclipse is going to be a Jacob love fest than we are boycotting everything Twilight!

Imagine that. Fans who only care about Edward and Bella collecting ONLY tweets dealing with Bella and Edward. Now shocked, shocked, that there are other characters in the movie and that there were people at the screening who tweeted about all those other characters. You mean twitter don’t only belong to Bella and Edward????? OMG! OMG! Some twilight fans are only one step away from being medicated for psychological disorders. P.S. Jen, I hope you never get to learn what the word RAPE actually means. Why don’t you spend a couple of days volunteering at a rape crisis center and leave your fantasy world for a bit.

You know, there were re-shoots who included almost all main Bella/Jacob scenes. So conclusion is: something was wrong with b/j chemistry.

I don’t know where you saw these tweets kim, but as others have pointed out, the only ones i find are about the hotness of Edward and Bella and basically nothing about Jacob. We all understand MR has some sort of worship of him and Summit prolly has an easier time controlling TL than the others, but they need to stop trying to force him down everyones throats. its posts like yours that make me think the production company heavily influences the media and what they write and who they promote.

I will not watch the movie Eclipse the first weekend, I’ll wait to see what people say about it …

But I swear, if Eclipse all J / B the movie, will not see the movie and I agree in boycotting Eclipse

The movie is E / B which is why I fell in love with the story ….

    NO J / B

    Mya,

There are millions of tweeters in the Twitterverse, and we obviously follow different people. I don’t “weed out” Team Jacob people from my Twilight circle just because they support a different pairing than I do. Good journalism, in my opinion, means including facts and observations that may not be aligned with my own preferences or opinions. My personal opinion of the treatment of Jacob in the series is that the E/B/J love triangle is contrived. But it would be immature and unprofessional of me to pretend that Jacob doesn’t exist in my journalistic articles, when my objective here is to be a resource to all fans.

That said, I have to agree with Rachael. Team Edward people probably tweeted about the leg hitch, and Team Jacob people probably tweeted about the tent. I follow a lot of journalists/bloggers, as well, and I think many of them also tried to be balanced in their reports.

Perhaps the real takeaway from this insight is that the “Eclipse” movie miraculously managed to satisfy both camps. People on this thread seem to be saying that, based on who they follow, they saw satisfaction/excitement from both groups.

    Thanks for your comments!

i searched all over twitter for comments about j/b, b/c i was interested to see the reaction. I could find very little, and i kind of want to know what they said. srsly! everything was e/b, from what i saw. even those who are team jacob were distraught after they couldn’t find many tweets about jacob either.

Yes, journalist must be objective. But you simply switched teams. You even didn’t mention Edward&Bella at all. You spoke about “most anticipated” scenes – b/j chemistry and tent scene. Believe me, these are not the ones!

Honestly, I am tired from Taylor’s pimping. If he could become superstar, he would already be popular without such support..
