Twilight’s Cullen actors describe “Eclipse” as “darker”
By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: In a rare interview with six of the seven Cullen brood actors, Yvonne Villarreal of the Los Angeles Times got some great new quotes about “Eclipse”. Though the actors echoed the well-publicized view that, compared to “Twilight” and “New Moon”, “Eclipse” contains the most action, they were unanimous on another differentiator: “Eclipse” is notably darker.
Interviewees included Peter Facinelli (Carlisle), Elisabeth Reaser (Esme), Ashley Greene (Alice), Kellan Lutz (Emmett), Jackson Rathbone (Jasper), and Nikki Reed (Rosalie); Robert Pattinson could not be reached for comment. Focusing on the manifestations of their characters, the actors discuss what latent attributes emerge as a result of the war with the newborns; and they bring up a key point—in “Eclipse” the Cullens actually act like vampires.
This is an important distinction. In “Twilight”, we see the Cullens as emphasizing their humanity to be accessible to a newly indoctrinated Bella. They are featured cooking in the kitchen, playing a loud (but otherwise normal) game of baseball, and doing all manner of human things. “New Moon” is similar—with the exception of the Volturi scene at the end, the Cullens are shown imitating human norms such as hosting a birthday party and holding a family vote. Though the other films remind us that they are not human (e.g., Jasper’s slip, the fight scene with James, “vampire speed”), they are portrayed with more humanity than other vamps.
I won’t give away the article—in fact, I recommend you go read it. Find out who says their character “loves to fight” and “wants to kill people all day long”. It’s a well-constructed piece that adds richness to the buzz on the upcoming film.
