Robert Pattinson in Oscar-winning company with “Water for Elephants”

By Tracy Rosenfield

HollywoodNews.com: Though Robert Pattinson has yet to be nominated for an Oscar, his latest project, “Water for Elephants” is chock full of Oscar contenders.

The credits list reads like a who’s who of recent Oscar winners and nominations:  Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line”), Christoph Waltz (“Inglorious Basterds”), Hal Holbrook (“Into the Wild”, ironically with Kristen Stewart), director Francis Lawrence, screenwriter Richard LaGravenese (“The Fisher King”), production designers Jack Fisk and Jim Erickson (“Their Will be Blood”), costume designer Jacqueline West (“Quills” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”) and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (“Brokeback Mountain”).

Being surrounded by this much Oscar potential, is Robert Pattinson more likely to receive a nomination, or perhaps be a part of an Oscar-nominated picture?  Pattinson has stated that he picks parts based on when he can really get a feel for the character he’s portraying (i.e. not for Oscar potential) and then completely immerse himself in the role.  But when everyone around you is striving for that level of work, will it bring a new level intensity for Pattinson?

No one will be betting until the reviews start to come in, but regardless of the number of Oscar winners and nominees, this is the first film where Robert has literally surrounded himself with some of the best of the best in the business.  “Water for Elephants” might just have what it takes to get a few nods.

i can’t wait for Water for Elephants…that’s one of my favorite books

the cast is great ….i love Rob, Reese, Christoph… i wish Rob good luck…i loved him in Little Ashes and Remember me..he’s one of the best young dramatic actor….it’s not fair to critisize him for Twilight…

Robert Pattinson is one of the worst working actors today. He’ll go the way of Orlando Bloom or someone equally forgettable. Reese and Christoph will own this film, so Pattinson won’t have much to do. The director was smart to cast two Oscar winners because you know the other lead can’t act his way out of a paper bag. The movie may or may not be nominated for Oscars. It probably won’t be a huge hit but may do okay for the studio. I do think there will be problems because Reese is a known perfectionist and Rob won’t cut the mustard. I would so love to work on this set. Pattinson won’t be nominated for any Oscars anytime soon. The critics haven’t forgiven him for Edward Cullen yet, and Remember Me wasn’t exactly well received in the U.S. By the end of Twilight, he’ll be back to struggling for auditions.

I can’t wait for this movie. Robert is going to be excellent as Jacob. He really shined in Remember Me and I expect him to shine in this one also. Obviously the industry sees his talent contrary to what the naysayers like to spout off. Well as they say the best revenge is success. I look forward to a very long and successful career for the highly talented Robert Pattinson.

BillD-Remember Me had issues other than Robert’s acting.

I really liked Remember Me. I think Robert is perfect for Jacob. I also like the Twilight films.
Having now seen Haunted Airman and the Bad Mother’s Handbook, and Little Ashes I think Robert will have a good career for himself. I am looking forward to this film because I loved the book so much. They seem to be taking care with making it look very authentic. Can’t wait .

Lol, this is all his PR folks. He’s not going to get an Oscar or an Oscar nod this early in his career. You know what they say : easy come, easy go. After Twilight, people will not care for him and his messy hair. This is just to get people (and not 4 year old girls and 40 year old women) interested
