The newest book in the Twilight series: “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner”

By Kim Palacios

HollywoodNews.com: “Who the heck is Bree Tanner?” was the reaction of many fans when Stephenie Meyer announced the release of her novella. Though the release of “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” is nearing (it is already available for pre-order on Amazon.com, drops on Kindle on June 5th, and is rumored to be scheduled for free download at points in June and July), many fans can’t remember who Bree tanner is. I’ll admit—I had to go look it up myself. Bree Tanner is a minor character, who (as the title of Meyer’s novella indicates) was extremely short-lived in the books.

Played by Jodelle Ferland, Bree Tanner is a character first introduced in “Eclipse” as a young girl turned newborn by Victoria as one of many chosen to populate her army. During battle with the Cullens, she surrenders herself to the vegetarian “good vamp” clan to escape the violence of Victoria’s army. Though Carlisle promises to teach her how to live like the Cullens, she is “ended” prematurely by Felix, who is ordered by Jane to kill her for breaking the Volturi’s law.

Since the unauthorized internet leak of the “Midnight Sun” manuscript (a partial version of the“Twilight” novel written from Edward’s point of view), Meyer has been known to be tinkering around the Twilight story from the point of view of other characters. Though “Midnight Sun” and “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” are the only currently released or announced novellas, some fans are hopeful that Stephenie Meyer will release even more.
