“Sex and the City 2″ beds $14.2 million in first day early estimates

Hollywoodnews.com: “Sex and the City 2” posted an enticing first day at the box office, charting $14.2 million in early morning estimates from 3,445 engagements.

Among Thursday openings, “Sex 2” slots the sixth spot in a list that’s topped off by a $50 million first day for 2005’s “Star Wars, Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith.”

First day of “Sex 2” is also close to 50% lower than the first chapter’s day at the B.O. which minted $26.8 million, and a three-day weekend of $57 million – a stellar bow for an R-rated chick pic. However, expect throngs of females to crowd theaters tonight, for Friday night is ladies night.

While “Sex 2” is expected to hold the number one spot through Monday, industry estimates initially saw the film seducing $80 million in five days. They have downgraded their estimates to the low 60s.

First day of “Sex 2” also includes $3 million generated from midnight showings, Wednesday into Thursday. Actual figures for “Sex and the City 2″ are expected to be released later today.
