Clint Eastwood curbs his enthusiasm over 80th birthday

Hollywoodnews.com: Go ahead, punk, wish him a Happy Birthday.

Clint Eastwood is turning 80 on Monday; however, he really doesn’t want to make a big deal out of his birthday. He’s just fine with a glass of wine with his wife Dina, 44. No need to bring him a cake or gifts.

“Once you get in the 70s, several things happen,” Eastwood tells U.K.’s The Sun.

“One is, you stop celebrating birthdays. I’ve forbidden my wife. I said, ‘Please, no birthday things.’ I don’t need to pretend to open a gift and say, ‘This is just what I wanted.’

However, cable network TCM is making a big deal out of Eastwood’s birthday and running nine films on Memorial Day Monday.

Film critic and Eastwood friend, Richard Schickel, remarks “He’s approaching 80 but he’s remained so productive. Most filmmakers are finished by that age.”

Schickel adds, “He’s sort of this amiable guy, a man who wears his fame easily and worries about being pretentious and imposing himself on you.”
