“Sex and the City 2″ on top Friday; “Shrek” looking at No. 1 box office spot

Hollywoodnews.com: Warner Bros. “Sex and the City 2” continued to lure in the ladies with $13.0 million off 3,445 runs, raising its cume to $27.2 million.

Paramount-DreamWorks’s “Shrek Forever After” followed in second with $11.3 million on 4,367, scaring its cume up to $101.2 million.

Disney’s Jerry Bruckheimer adventure film, “Prince of Persia” based on the videogame opened in third grossing $10.2 million off 3,646.

Despite all the hoopla over “Sex and the City 2’s” reign over the Memorial Day holiday, industry reports are tracking “Shrek” to trump the leading ladies over the four-day period.

Through its first two days, “Sex and the City 2” is running behind its first chapter at the box office by close to 40%. “Sex and the City” was released on a Friday as opposed to “Sex and the City 2’s” Thursday bow.
