Peter Jackson will not replace del Toro on “The Hobbit”

Hollywoodnews.com: Following news that Guillermo del Toro has dropped out of “The Hobbit,” the likely contender would be the film’s producer and “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson, right?

EW reports that the director’s manager Ken Kamins exclaims:

“As for Peter directing,” writes Kamins from New Zealand, “that’s not something he can consider at this time as he has other commitments to other projects. But make no mistake, Peter and Fran’s commitment to the franchise is total and will do everything necessary to protect the films and the investment made by New Line, [parent company] Warner Bros. and MGM.”

New Line, Warner Bros. will be meeting with Jackson and his producer wife Fran Walsh this week to talk about a replacement on “The Hobbit.”
