Daniel Craig in contention for “Dragon Tattoo” lead

Hollywoodnews.com: Daniel Craig is in early talks to star in David Fincher’s U.S. remake of Swedish thriller “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

The James Bond star will play disgraced journalist and amateur sleuth Mikael Blomkvist.

Empire Online covered the story.

Craig is currently starring in Jon Favreau’s “Cowboys & Aliens.”

Despite cries from fans who believe that “Dragon Tattoo” shouldn’t be remade in English, Fincher and screenwriter Steve Zaillian insist they have a different angle on the material, which is based on the best-selling novel by Stieg Larsoon.

Film is expected to role in September. Fincher is looking to cast an unknown in the lead role of hacker-savant Lisbeth Salander despite reports that Carey Mulligan’s name has been heavily mentioned for the role.
