‘The View’ ladies cut off Sean Hayes on Newsweek controversy

By Greg Hernandez The ladies of The View had the perfect opportunity this week to get reaction from Sean Hayes about the controversial Newsweek article by Ramin Setoodeh which claimed that he was not convincing as a straight man in Promises, Promises, a show for which he is nominated for a Tony Award.

Guest panelist Ashlee Banfield did a solid job of bringing it up and asking the question but, frustratingly, Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd interjected with useless comment. This was not the Hot Topics segment so let the guest SPEAK!

Here is some of what Sean did manage to say amid the din about the notion that openly gay actors cannot convincingly play straight characters: “Where do you start? It’s a five-hour conversation about how assinine that statement is.
