Chris Weitz Comments on “Breaking Dawn” and Bill Condon
By Tracy Rosenfield
hollywoodnews.com: Chris Weitz, director of the second “Twilight” installment, “New Moon”, recently chatted with MTV about his thoughts on the fourth “Twilight” film, “Breaking Dawn.” Though the cast has spoken more highly of Weitz than any other “Twilight” director to date (Catherine Hardwicke, David Slade), Weitz did not want to take on the beastly 754-page fourth book. Weitz has even been rumored to want to retire after the difficulties he’s faced filming his current project, “The Gardner.”
When asked for his thoughts about “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon, Weitz commented Condon is “…terribly talented…a solid citizen, a great guy, very smart and he’s going to do an amazing job.” MTV also asked Weitz if he had any advice for Condon. He replied, with a straight face, “Think carefully about babies clawing out of people’s stomachs…” He then went on to mention Ridley Scott, obviously referencing the film “Alien”, where an alien does, in fact, claw its way out of a human’s stomach. Weitz adds more hilarity to the imagery by saying “Kristen Stewart giving live birth, through the stomach, in 3-D. Yes.” Even he was chuckling at that thought.
3-D or not, there are plenty of difficult scenes to film in “Breaking Dawn”, not to mention the length of the book, which may ultimately result in the finale being split into two separate films.
What do you think? Do you think Condon will “do an amazing job” as Weitz suggests? Do you think Weitz should have directed “Breaking Dawn”? Or do you think another director would have been more appropriate. Let us know in the comments!
