Newest Twilight “Eclipse” clip premieres as 6/30 release date approaches

By Kim Palacios

HollywoodNews.com: It’s become an MTV Movie Award tradition: show a world premiere exclusive clip of the country’s hottest upcoming movie. Last year’s was “New Moon”. This year’s, of course, is “Eclipse”.

In lieu of the trailer-ish clip that was shown for last year’s film, this year’s clip was less-choppily edited, with unseen footage focusing on tension among Edward, Bella, and Jacob in an extended portion of a single scene. Dubbed the “parking lot” clip, it focused on a confrontation among Edward, Bella, and Jacob that showcases the complicated relationship among the three.

Fans had previously seen a single line from the same scene, in which Jacob shows up at the Forks High parking lot to warn Bella that there are things about which “she has a right to know”. In earlier trailers, the remark was ambiguous, but the new clip clearly shows the continuation of Jacob’s statement: “…she is the one the redhead wants.” It is a critical moment in the Bella/Edward relationship: at once, Bella realizes the extent to which Edward has sheltered her from the truth. By the end of the minute-long scene fragment that we are shown, Bella is leaving on the back of Jake’s bike.

Even beyond these new revelations, the scene is riddled with angst as more character flaws and vulnerabilities are revealed. “He’s checking to see if you’re still human,” Edward remarks snidely to Bella as he eavesdrops on Jacob’s thoughts. “Why haven’t you called me back?” Bella asks of the recently-scarce Jacob as he moves to leave, seconds later. And, though Jacob leaves with Bella, she dispels any illusion that he’s secured the upper hand. “Lose the grin, Jacob,” says Bella. “We’re just going for a ride.”
