‘The Wheeler Boys’ to stream on Netflix as it premieres

HollywoodNews.com: Netflix, Inc. and Film Independent (FIND) celebrate the premiere of “The Wheeler Boys,” a film written and directed by first-time filmmaker Philip G. Flores, winner of the “Netflix FIND Your Voice” filmmaking competition.

“The Wheeler Boys” will debut on Friday, June 25, when the general public can watch it instantly and for free at Netflix and it premieres at the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival, presented by The Los Angeles Times Netflix members and non-members alike can enjoy “The Wheeler Boys” streamed from Netflix for 48 hours beginning at 8:00 p.m. Pacific on Friday, June 25 to 8:00 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, June 27 at www.netflix.com/findyourvoice. Netflix members with unlimited plans will also be able to instantly watch the movie right on their TVs via a range of popular consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix.

As the winner of the “Netflix FIND Your Voice” competition, Mr. Flores, 28, received a prize package valued at more than $350,000 to produce “The Wheeler Boys”. The award included a $150,000 cash production grant funded by Netflix, a camera package donated by Panavision, Kodak Color Negative Film courtesy of Kodak, dailies and release prints donated by Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, and a digital intermediate package provided by EFILM, a division of Deluxe. After winning the contest, the script was developed in Film Independent’s Screenwriters Lab under the tutelage of Meg LeFauve, and subsequently went through Film Independent’s Producers Lab, under the tutelage of Naomi Despres.

Mr. Flores is a USC Film School graduate who has had his sights set on a career in filmmaking since his childhood days in Hemet, CA. “The Wheeler Boys” spanned four years from inception to completion and has been the gateway for many opportunities.

“The Wheeler Boys” tells the story of Ted, a high school freshman who reluctantly engages in a contest based on the sexual conquest of female classmates. Things go horribly awry when Ted’s first love becomes another tally on the contest’s growing scoreboard. “The Wheeler Boys” is written and directed by Mr. Flores, and stars Alex Frost, Lorenzo James Henrie, Portia Doubleday, Haley Ramm, Alex Russell and Billy Campbell.
