“True Blood’s” Rutina Wesley: Tara Thorton will struggle this season

Hollywoodnews.com: Rutina Wesley’s character, Tara Thorton, on “True Blood” can best be described as a female Job.

More or less.

As the best friend to Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), Tara has weathered her fair share of pain, from an alcoholic mother to a demon-possessed b.f. Eggs, who is blown out of his misery by Sookie’s brother. The upside is that Tara still has Sookie’s shoulder to lean on. PEOPLE best describes Tara as a “hard-luck mortal.”

Speaking to PEOPLE, Wesley says her darker days aren’t behind her in season 3.

“I think that she’s going to be struggling this season, grieving and trying to find her feet and her identity, and how she fits into this world,” says the actress, “It’s going to be interesting to see her journey … There are going to be a lot of ups and downs for Tara this season.”

Season 3 starts with Tara coming to peace with Egg’s death. Sure he was twisted and seduced by Michelle Forbes’ maenad last season – but Tara’s heart belonged to him.

“It was the love of her life,” Wesly says. “It was the rug that was pulled out beneath her, but she is a survivor, and you’re going to see her fight, but I think Tara is going to be in mourning — she has to be.”
