Bob Berney may be in business with Graham King

Hollywoodnews.com: Informed sources are buzzing that indie wunderkind Bob Berney is in talks to launch a theatrical distribution arm for producer Graham King (“The Departed”).

Days prior to the Cannes Film Festival, Berney jumped ship at Apparition, a distribution company he co-founded last year.
Berney has had an impressive run at various indie labels such as IFC, Newmarket and Picturehouse where he has turned niche projects, i.e. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and “The Passion of the Christ,” into aud-pleasing fare.

According to the L.A. Times, King has repeatedly expressed how he yearns to start up his own distribution label to fill the void of prolific indie titles in the market.

King has been a financier of big budget-prestige projects since 1998; raising production funds through the sale of foreign rights.

King just wrapped production on Sony’s “The Tourist,” starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. In 2007, he won a best picture Oscar for “The Departed.”
