Bryce Dallas Howard Interviews Xavier Samuel for Interview Magazine

By Tracy Rosenfield

hollywoodnews.com: Out of the three “Twilight” cast spreads in Interview Magazine, two of the interviews have been conducted by one of the actor’s co-stars. Chris Weitz, director of “New Moon” interviewed Ashley Greene and now Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays Victoria in “Eclipse,” interviews Australian-raised Xavier Samuel, the leader of the newborn vampire army.

As previously reported, Xavier Samuel got his first American part, Riley, by sending in an audition dvd. Says “Eclipse” director David Slade, ““I initially saw a Quicktime movie of Xavier auditioning for Riley and immediately knew he had something.”

Just as Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner were thrust into the limelight, Samuel equates the sudden exposure to the fandom “like being struck by lightning.” Though he gets the attention of the female fans, he admits it’s not at the level of other cast mates, so he’s still able to slide under the radar. We’ll see how easy that sliding is after June 30th. What’s interesting is that Samuel doesn’t play “the good guy” in “Eclipse” (though his other roles are mainly “the boy next door” type). He’s the cohort and lover of “Victoria”, the nemesis of The Wolfpack, The Cullens, and Bella. Samuel’s character, along with Howard’s, is the catalyst for getting the werewolves and vampires to “play nice.”

Now that Samuel has finished filming “Eclipse,” he’d like to consider theater or an Australian film, stating, “ I’d really like to continue to support what’s going on in Australia in general, so that’s a big priority for me.” However, he also notes there are far more opportunities in the U.S., so we may see Samuel back sooner rather than later.
