Paul McCartney picks rarities as his favorite tracks
By Andy Pemberton
HollywoodNews.com: And he’s right! Sir Paul, who is 68 today, chose the lesser-known tracks over more commercially successful songs such as Yesterday, which has been covered 3,500 times.
Neither Blackbird nor Here, There and Everywhere – both co-written with John Lennon – were even released as singles.
But Sir Paul picked them from his back catalogue, which runs to hundreds of songs including 32 that topped the US charts, as his best compositions, the Daily Mail reported.
He said he “strangely enough” is not playing Blackbird, from the 1968 album The Beatles, on his current tour of Britain and Ireland.
But he added that the song, which alludes to race issues in America, is one he is often requested to play because it is a popular tune with guitar pupils.
