Former ‘Melrose Place’ resident Katie Cassidy becomes newest ‘Gossip Girl’

By Whitney Milam

HollywoodNews.com: Looks like the Upper East Side is getting a taste (an expensive one, of course) of Los Angeles on Gossip Girl next season, as Entertainment Weekly’s Micheal Ausiello reports that Katie Cassidy–who until recently starred as the sharp-tongued and impeccably-dressed Ella Sims on The CW’s now canceled Melrose Place reboot– has been cast in a juicy recurring role as a new love interest for Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) on Gossip Girl‘s fourth season.

So what do you think, Upper East Siders? With Blair Waldorf and Georgina Sparks around, will Katie’s character (a college student at Columbia who is “not what she appears”) be able to scheme with the best of them? Or will this California girl warrant a spectacularly dramatic take-down? Discuss!
