Joan Rivers to gay performers: Stay in the closet
Hollywoodnews.com: Joan Rivers thinks it’s a bad career move for an actor to come out of the closet and announce that they are gay.
“If you’re going to be a romantic idol and try to get every teenage girl to love you, then you’d be an ass to come out and say you’re gay,” Rivers says.
Page Six was reading a profile on the comedian in The Advocate.
“Ricky Martin was so smart. He did what he did, made his millions and then he said, ‘Guess what, every body? I’m gay . . . It didn’t matter anymore because he didn’t have to bring in 16-year-old girls.”
Rivers says that should she ever play a lesbian onscreen again, she would pick her daughter Melissa to portray her love interest.
“Let’s really make it good.”
The IFC documentary about the former E! Style host “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work” has grossed close to $1 million at the arthouse B.O. in its first three weekends.
