Miley Cyrus comedy “LOL” nabs “Twilight” star Ashley Greene

Hollywoodnews.com: The “Twilight” stars are staying busy, even as their latest vampire-werewolf love triangle storms area multiplexes.

Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen in the blockbuster franchise, will try her hand at comedy now that she’s joined the cast of “LOL,” the remake of a French film that’s being tailored for tween sensation Miley Cyrus. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Mandate Pictures will distribute the coming-of-age flick, about a teenager (Cyrus) who is dumped by her more sexually experienced boyfriend (George Finn of TV’s “90210”) while her divorced mom, played by Demi Moore, struggles to move on with her life.

Greene will play Cyrus’ high school nemesis. Thomas Jane, currently starring in the new TV show “Hung,” has signed on to play Cyrus’ father.

“Twilight” hasn’t necessarily shown off Greene’s comedic chops, but the girl apparently has a desire to loosen up a bit on screen. She’s also set to appear in the Jim Field Smith’s indie ensemble comedy “Butter,” about a butter-carving competition held in a small Midwestern town. Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Garner will join her for that 2011 release. Oh, and she’ll pop up in a tiny, two-part something or other titled “Breaking Dawn.” But I doubt anyone will see that low-budget, fly-under-the-radar flick. Right?
