“Paranormal Activity” teaser pulled from theater for being too scary

By Sean O’Connell How scary is too scary?

Paramount is wondering that this morning as news breaks that the short teaser for “Paranormal Activity 2” has been pulled from the Cinemark theater chain after patrons who’d paid to see midnight screening of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” complained that the clip terrified them.

Truthfully, this sounds liike a brilliant, but fake, news item planted by Paramount’s marketing team. Nothing in that teaser clip is actually scary. The long “jump at the lens” shot is lifted right from the first “Paranormal,” while the rest of the footage focuses on babies and dogs. It’s sweet!

OK, not really. But there’s nothing in the clip that should disturb audience members … especially those who’ve paid to see a movie about vampires and werewolves! Granted, they are chaste, doughy vamps and wolves, but still, you get the point.

MTV News reached out to the theater chain for comment, but came back empty-handed. They did get comments from attendees, though. Theboogieman631 wrote, “Love the dog & baby!” But KellyMichele29 wrote, “Holy sh–! I saw the trailer for ‘Paranormal Activity 2’ and freaked out! Scary as hell!! Watch yo back tonight!”

No such thing as bad press, right?
