Fans unjustifiably shocked by Twilight star absence at London “Eclipse” premiere

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: Media outlets such as People and MTV underscored U.K. fan disappointment at the absence of major Twilight stars at the premiere of “Eclipse”. Yet the non-participation of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner had been confirmed for weeks. “It’s obvious we’re not important enough; We cried,” MTV U.K. quoted one fan as saying. People Magazine went on to report that some fans waited 36 hours for the principal stars to appear.

Disappointment makes sense, but why the surprise? It was widely reported that the three principal stars would not attend as early as June 2nd. Outlets such as TV.com accurately reported that Pattinson, Stewart, and Lautner would not be in attendance, and dozens of other entertainment web sites and fan blogs ran the story. Also known at the time was a list of stars who would be in attendance, and the TV.com article once again proved itself true: Director David Slade and actors Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, Alex Meraz, Boo-Boo Stewart, and Xavier Samuel were projected to be present, and they were.

Beyond the surprise alone was deep disappointment at the conspicuous absence of Pattinson, who fans believed belonged at the event if for no other reason that he is from England. Yet, compared to Stewart and Lautner, Pattinson may have the best reason of all for not attending. He has done almost exclusive promotion in the Los Angeles area to allow him to continue shooting “Water for Elephants”.

I find it interesting that the Brits think that Robert had an “obligation” to be there since he’s native, but it’s in the States that he’s had the largest fan base and the biggest success.

I’m sure he would be there if he was not working . also his fan base is quite big in the US . the fans need to understand he has a job to do that does come first.True fans should understand he does have other obligations beyond just the twilight saga films.
