Prince says “the internet’s completely over”

HollywoodNews.com: Prince has been in the music industry long enough to see it transform into the digital age and even watch vinyl make a comeback. For someone who has won a handful of Grammy Awards and is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it’s safe to say that he knows his stuff.

Prince is one of the few musicians who has banned YouTube and iTunes from using any of his music and in a new interview with Mirror UK, he explains why. He says, “the internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it. The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.”

Do you agree with Prince’s take on the digital music scene?

The inherent originality of Prince’s business approach reflects his artistic nature, and on that basis one can’t class his actions as being right or wrong. They are one man’s unique approach to a shared challenge.
