Ascendio 2012 is Announced for Summer 2012

By Hanako M. Ricks

HollywoodNews.com: With Infinitus 2010 to begin in little over a week, the Harry Potter Education Fanon (HPEF) today made a very exciting announcement! Ascendio 2012, another Harry Potter based conference, will take place July 12-15, 2012 at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, FL – the same location as next week’s Infinitus. The theme for Ascendio, as described on the Infinitus news blog, is as follows:

The conference theme, “Take flight…” suggests many aspects of the Harry Potter series: owls, broomsticks, Thestrals, Buckbeak, dragons; the Flight of the Prince; Voldemort’s fleeing from death; traveling through time with the Time-Turner… Flight can have positive or negative connotations, but it is certainly a major theme in the Harry Potter series. Therefore, our formal and informal programming will focus on journeys through time and space, particularly those that involve flight.

Don’t know who or what the HPEF is? HP Education Fanon, Inc. (HPEF) is a U.S. based educational non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to producing academic symposia on the Harry Potter books and cultural phenomenon. According to their mission statement:

We strive to distinguish our conferences by the premiere quality of the programming we offer, particularly the caliber of our featured speakers and guests. Our volunteer planners aim to bring fans and scholars professional-quality, creative, premium experiences for affordable prices. HPEF also promotes the benefits of reading for both children and adults by offering Library Science and Education tracks in our conference programs. We have also donated portions of our proceeds to Book Aid International and we continue to identify other charities whose missions focus on providing audiences with books to read and love.

Ascendio is still in the planning stages, but you can expect the same outstanding academic and non-academic events that you’ve come to expect from an HPEF symposium. You can sign up for their official newsletter on the Ascendio website, or continue to check with Hollywood News for updates!
