Drew Barrymore: still fabulous at 35

By Kim Palacios

HollywoodNews.com: She was just 6 years old when she made her mainstream debut in the blockbuster hit “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial”, and only 8 when she played the creepy Charlie Mcgee in Stephen King’s “Firestarter”. Now 35, Drew Barrymore is still dazzling Hollywood with her performances and gracing the covers of magazines.

Drew’s August feature with Elle finds her following June and July cover girls Kristen Stewart and Rhianna, respectively, proving the seasoned actress can more than hold her own next to the mega-stars of the day. While working in an industry in which youth and beauty are paramount, discouraging other entertainers from discussing their age, Drew, in her interview, not only discusses her age, but embraces it.

“I don’t want to be vain or fearful, and I don’t think I’ll do anything [in terms of plastic surgery], but if I want to do something, I will,” said the star. “From my perspective, there’s no reason to be afraid of aging, because if you age, you’re lucky! The alternative is death.”

The star is hardly in need of plastic surgery—in her photo shoot, the star presented stunningly. Her all-black wardrobe featured pieces by Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan New York, and a memorable Swarovski crystal skirt by Louise Goldin.

She also spoke freely about another huge cultural taboo: that of being an unmarried woman in one’s 30’s. “If you’re 35 and single and it’s a choice, it feels fine. So I didn’t settle with the wrong person yet. Big deal!” Kudos to Drew for her attitude, and to Elle Magazine for highlighting such a down-to-earth star.
