Fourth “Austin Powers” possible, but not on the books just yet

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Mike Myers doesn’t necessarily need a hit. His contributions to the “Shrek” franchise — including this summer’s “Shrek Forever After” — ensures that his bank account will remain healthy for generations. But creatively, Myers’ ego might still be bruised after the drubbing “The Love Guru” took both critically and commercially. So I’m a little surprised he hasn’t contacted regular “Austin Powers” director Jay Roach to discuss the possibility of re-teaming for a fourth comedy.

According to Roach, they haven’t talked yet. Of the eight films Roach has directed since hitting the Hollywood scene in 1990, three have been “Austin Powers” comedies. Chances are he’ll one day direct another, though right now, Roach says the future of that franchise is entirely up to star Myers.

While speaking with Hollywood News about his latest comedy, “Dinner for Schmucks,” Roach let it be known that Myers only dives into a “Powers” project “when the spirit movies him,” and admitted that while a new rumor surfaces every six months that the fourth “Powers” might be on the way, nothing is scheduled right now.

A fourth “Powers” film is credited on Roach’s IMDB page, but not on Myers’ page, which only lists an untitled Keith Moon project, listed as “In Development” with a 2012 release date. More details if and when they develop.
