Harry Potter and Twilight Fans Unite for a Common Goal
HollywoodNews.com: The fanbases of the Harry Potter and Twilight series are constantly being compared to each other, whether in fun or jest or as competition to each other, but at the end of the day, most are just fans who really love their series, and will do what it takes to support them, especially in the name of charity. Sometimes, fans of both series can come together for a common goal to help enrich the lives of others. This is one of those times.
As reported earlier in the month, The HP Alliance is the running on Facebook to win a $250,000 grant from Chase Community Giving, and the Twilight fan site TwilightSource.com is asking Twilight fans to help. In a very moving endorsement, the site writes:
The Harry Potter Alliance is an organization about the power of story. They want to show people what can happen when fans of great stories come together, and how stories can transform the world for good. One of the things they plan to do with the money is to form an online coalition of fan communities to work towards social justice. We all know about the engrossing nature of story, and how stories can make us wish for the things on the page to be true in our real lives. That’s what the HPA aims to bring about–they might not be able to make Edward Cullen appear, but they can prove the power of love in our world.
Voting for the competition ends tonight, July 12 at midnight, and the winners of each prize – a $250,000 grand prize, four $100,000 runner-up prizes, and 195 prizes in the amount of $20,000 – will be announced on July 13.
