Brad Pitt loses beard for “Moneyball” role

By Sean O’Connell To some, the big news might be that Brad Pitt finally shaved that scraggly, unkempt patch of facial hair he’d been sporting for some time now. Maybe things are different in the South of France, where Pitt resides with Angelina Jolie and their brood. But here in the States, the vagabond look went out with grunge-metal acts of the mid-1990s.

To me, the bigger reason is WHY Pitt shaved his beard. He’s (finally) prepping to play Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland A’s baseball team, in the film adaptation of the winning novel, “Moneyball.”

The project has lingered in development hell for some time, with Pitt’s friend and frequent collaborator Steven Soderbergh circling it before eventually giving away to Bennett Miller, Oscar nominated director of “Capote.”

Joining Pitt in the sports drama will be “Capote” star Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jonah Hill and Robin Wright. The ever-reliable has a grainy photo of a clean-shaven Pitt.

Yep. He looks just like a young Robert Redford.

“Moneyball” should be in theaters next year.
