Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez making leap to silver screen

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has dated countless movie stars (if you believe the rumors), from Cameron Diaz to Kate Hudson. Now he’s preparing to become one.

Rodriguez will appear in the “Friends With Benefits,” a romantic comedy starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. The movie’s about two friends who struggle with deeper feelings when the test-drive a little fling. Woody Harrelson, Andy Samberg, Emma Stone, Patricia Clarkson, Jenna Elfman and Richard Jenkins already have joined the cast. Now word has reached Variety that A-Rod will appear as well.

What’s unclear, however, is whether Rodriguez will play himself or a fictional character. What we do know is that, with filming ready to begin later this month, Screen Gems is prepared to work around the Yankees’ baseball schedule, which clearly could continue through playoff baseball in October.

And now, if the Yankees don’t make the playoffs or A-Rod struggles in the post-season, Yankee fans will have a new reason to blame him.
