‘Glee’ turns down the volume on tunes
HollywoodNews.com: “Glee” fans – are you O.D.’ed on pop songs during the show? Do you think the program plays too many in one episode?
Well, creator Ryan Murphy plans to serve up fewer tunes.
Digital Spy was reading Fancast and learned that the TV series will return to its original format of five songs per episode.
Murphy revealed in a June interview with the Hollywood Reporter that it takes about four months in advance for him to pre-plan a song in an episode – the bane being expensive rights clearances followed by choreography.
“In the back nine, because Fox was so supportive, we were denied nothing,” Murphy says, “[We said], ‘Let’s go from five numbers to eight. Let’s see how that feels’.
“We did that, and I think many of them were fun and really successful. But then what we realized is people love the numbers but they love the characters just as much. So in the second season we’re going back to five numbers.”
Season 2 of “Glee” arrives on September 21 on Fox.
