Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk? Not so fast.

By Sean O’Connell Did you hear the latest rumor about Mark Ruffalo contemplating the role of The Hulk in the upcoming “Avengers” movie? Well, pump your brakes before you go photoshopping Ruffalo’s face onto a fan-art poster.

The actor reportedly has been offered the role, as is rumored, but he is a long way off from agreeing to take to part. In addition, he hasn’t even met with Joss Whedon, who it’s believed will be directing the film (though he has not been confirmed by Marvel). The actor and his potential director are rumored to be meeting later this week or possibly this weekend, according to the L.A. Times.

Should Ruffalo take the role? I don’t think he’s the best fit. He has proven he can survive, and even thrive, outside of the mainstream, blockbuster template. He’s currently receiving high praise for his turn in “The Kids Are All Right.” Then again, Norton is an actor’s actor, and I thoroughly enjoyed him in the part.

Whomever is finally cast, they’ll be competing for face time in this overcrowded “Avevgers” production. And the downside of playing the Hulk is that an estimated 50-75% of your time on screen will be replaced by a CGI monster. How satisfying could that be?

Don’t expect Ruffalo to officially sign before Comic-Con. But expect plenty more rumors to hit the Web as we wait for that fan convention to begin!
