Simon Cowell backs model Katie Piper’s burn victim charity, after being moved by documentary

HollywoodNews.com: Media mogul Simon Cowell has become a patron of a new burns charity set up by a model who fell victim to an acid attack.

The X-Factor judge contacted Katie Piper, 26, when he saw her moving documentary on Channel 4. The program showed Miss Piper’s story when Stefan Sylvestre, her ex-boyfriend, threw acid on her in a street in London. The acid burns left Katie seriously disfigured but she has set up the Katie Piper Foundation to help others lead a normal life.

The charity will offer support and medical treatment for victims. Cowell said: “Katie is one of the most inspiring people I have met. She is brave, talented and determined – and I think what she is doing with the Katie Piper Foundation is incredible.”
